Tofany, Bernard E. DDS


Rye, NY: August 11, 2016 at age 93. Dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many. Predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth; son, Robert; and brothers Edward (Finzer), Benedict, Vincent, and Victor. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Thomas) Groos; grandchildren, Julie (Steve) Lagnese and Nicholas Groos; and many nieces and nephews.

Bernard was a graduate of Aquinas Institute, St. Bonaventure University, and University of Buffalo Dental School. Prior to attending dental school, he served aboard a 
U.S. Navy Landing Ship in the South Pacific during World War II, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. Bernard enjoyed being a family dentist for more than 50 years and held several offices in his Dental Societies, including President of the Monroe County and Seventh District Dental Societies. He served on the N.Y. State Board for Dentistry, N.E. Regional Board of Dental Examiners, and the American Association of Dental Examiners. He was Assistant Clinical Professor of Dentistry at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Dental Hygiene at Monroe Community College, and a Consultant at the V.A. hospitals in Canandaigua and Bath. He was a Fellow in the American and International Colleges of Dentists. He received the Award of Merit from the Rochester Academy of Medicine and the Dr. George D. Greenwood Award from the Seventh District Dental Society. He was active in several community activities including Monroe County Health Council, Board of Trustees of St. Bonaventure University, Rochester Rehabilitation Society Board, Easter Seals Society Board, Lions International, Knights of Columbus, and Christ the King Church Men's Club.

A Memorial Service is planned for Friday, October 7, 11 AM at Anthony Funeral Chapel, 2305 Monroe Ave., Rochester.
