Ohio State Univ. Bach. in Industrial Design  1964: SUNY-Albany Master's in Educational Communications 1974

I've decided the best way to update is to give you a narrative of my life experiences.  I've already shared some of the old memories, so this will fill in some of the blanks of the last 53 years.

I lost touch with most of you when my family moved to Hannibal at the beginning of the 5 th grade.  My parents owned Getz Drive-in in Fairdale for 5 years and the house with 40 acres next to the restaurant became available.  What a difference from city life and the small 1 BR apt. above my grandparents place Walter's Inn on Hannibal Street.  Suddenly I had a huge new world to explore.  But I also had new responsibilities. We raised pigs, ducks, geese, rabbits, bantam chickens and hunting dogs. I also took care of a huge garden, mowed the lawn, shoveled the driveway and help in the restaurant.  I gained many new friends, partially because Mom would give them treats at the restaurant. I learned about money, became intrigued about the pyramid on a dollar bill, made sundaes and milkshakes and learned to cook.  I also peeled and chopped 2500 pounds of potatoes each week for french fries. ( Couldn't eat them for 10 years after leaving home without bringing up that memory.)

I had started Cub Scouts in Fulton and continued that in Hannibal with Boy Scouts, Explorer and became a Den Chief to a Cub Scout Pack.  My highlights of scouting were the Valley Forge Jamboree and being honored with membership in the Order of the Arrow. Though I never did any more with scouting, it lead to a lifelong interest in hiking, camping and appreciation for nature.

At age 13 I was only 5' 2" with size 7 feet.  Mom bought me new shoes in SEP- size 7 1/2.  By NOV my feet were size 11 and I was still only 5' 2" at Christmas. The following May I was 5' 8' and at Christmas I hit 6 feet, 145 pounds soaking wet.  I never did fill out until my freshman year at college.

In Junior High I won the County science fair for my study of the habitat of owls.  Math and science were strong subjects for me and after graduation I pursued studies in engineering at Ohio State University.  It was close enough to get home if I needed to, but far enough away that my parents wouldn't visit every weekend.  The first two quarters of engineering studies brought the realization that I was trying to live my father's dream and not mine.  I had a strong interest in automotive design and if I switched colleges I would have been drafted for Viet Nam.  Instead I switched programs at OSU and went into Industrial Design.  This brought conflict with my father and he would not speak to me until I graduated in 1964.  During the summers I worked 75 hours a week at GE and some hours at the restaurant and borrowing what I needed to finish my education. I also discovered an interest with ancient Egypt and the pyramids. During a hot day in May of 1961 I drifted off when the professor was saying how millions of slaves built the pyramids. I was daydreaming and visioning it differently. I awoke with the thought, "That's not how I did it!" Stay tuned for more on Egypt.

Disillusion came after graduation and I could not get a job in my field. Employers wanted a Masters and 3 years experience or a Bachelors and 5 years experience. Small design shops figured I had too much education and would leave after a year.  My strategy was to take what I had learned and apply it to selling my skills.  I worked in a department store designing displays, sold insurance, sold Xerox copiers, worked for W. T.  Grants and finally found my niche with NY State in the field of staff development in SEP 1966.

My career advanced and I held position with the Thruway Authority, Correctional Services, Social Services, Motor Vehicles and the Education Department. I was a founding member of the NY State Training Council and served in various officer positions including Chair for 25 years.  I also served on many committees with the Governor's Office of Employee Relations before retiring as Director of Staff Development from the Education Department in 1995.

I met my first wife Jacqueline in 1971 while skiing at Mad River Glen.  We married in 1972, went to England for a honeymoon, traveled for a month throughout the USA in 1973, built a post and beam cedar home in 1974 (where I still live) and divorced in 1977.  Jacqueline though had introduced me to Edgar Cayce  in 1974 when she gave me his biography "There Is A River."  This one book has done more to influence my life than any other work.  While reading  about one of the people who asked Mr. Cayce for a psychic reading, the man wanted to know about his talent for music. Mr. Cayce responded that he had written the songs, that the workers sang to raise the vibrations to move the stones in building the pyramids.  I flashed back to that hot, humid day in May 1961 and the vision of the pyramids and said, "That's how it was done!" It was an awakening of my spirit and led me to read everything I could find on Edgar Cayce and to visit the Association for Research and Development in Virginia Beach, VA. Still more Egypt to come.

I remarried in 1979, a woman from Pulaski.  We each had rental properties, common interests in gardening, XC skiing and nature. At one time we had 8 rental units and spent way too much of our time keeping them maintained and rented. It ended in a messy divorce in 1987.  During 1987 my Dad had several small strokes and carotid artery surgery. He suffered a major stroke during the surgery, died and was resuscitated.  I reconciled with my Dad and he told me how proud he was of my accomplishments in life. During the weeks that followed Dad regained his ability to walk enough to go home, but his heart couldn't take it. He was resuscitated twice more before he chose to have further attempts stopped.  The morning of the 3 rd day he passed peacefully.

In 1988 I met Suzanne, a French Canadian.  We dated for 10 years going between Schoharie, Ottawa and Fairdale.  In 1994, the Edgar Cayce Org. was going to Egypt for a 15 day tour.  I secured the last space available.  The journey was one spiritual awakening after another.  I felt as if I had come home.  The  experiences are too lengthy to go into here at this time,  but our group did get three private nights in the Great Pyramid and on the third night I meditated for an hour inside the sarcophagus. Visions occurred each time and I knew then the sacredness of this place.  I suggest you read Edgar Cayce's words to get a better understanding.

Mom had two small strokes in FEB 95 and Governor Pataki wanted 40,000 jobs cut from the State.  Ten years earlier I had promised my Dad that I would see that Mom was taken care of. A dream guided me that if I did not retire then I would be fired in NOV. I retired early on APR 1 and discovered I had more money retired than I did working.  Mom left the hospital on April 1 with pneumonia.  I stayed with her for a month and set up home care. Mom got better and lived until DEC 26, 1997.

In AUG 1995 I hiked in the High Sierras with a group of friends,  I trained from MAY until AUG until I could carry 65 pounds in the Adirondacks.  The Sierras trails I hiked start at 7,200' and go up over 11,000.'  The humidity is much less but the air is much thinner.  I8 of us spent 9 days in the mountains and I carried an 80 pack up to 11,000'.

After Mom died, Suzanne and I got married in MAY 98.  I was also conducting workshops throughout the NE US and eastern Canada on setting spiritual ideals in your life based on the Edgar Cayce readings. It was very rewarding experience but not financially. Suzanne and I traveled to Ottawa often, did a 3 week trip to Europe to see her daughter compete in the Paris Marathon and traveled to South Dakota to visit friends we met on the Europe trip.  Suzanne was not comfortable with retirement and decided to return to Canada, her family and work. It was an amiable divorce.

Being single again I was offered an opportunity to be a pottery assistant aboard the Island Princess for a three week cruise along the coast of Alaska.  I went and found I was supposed to be the Hand Build Pottery Expert.  I did a crash course, taught lessons, did demonstrations and was the only one on board who could operate the computerized kilns. My sculpting class from Ohio State finally paid off and my workshop business 'made' money for tax purposes.

Prior to the trip, I had a dream to call a former classmate.  Oddly she had a conversation with her sister at the same time about dating again and my name came up.  After many emails Ruth and I got together and we have been dating ever since. We had been classmates since the fifth grade and had no interest in each other in school.

This past year I began selling organic raspberries and veggies to local restaurants and natural food stores. I addition I've pursued a childhood talent  of water dowsing.  I located hundreds of wells in my life, only now I pursue it professionally.

Life if strange and wonderful at the same time if you are only open to it.

I went to CCBI in Syracuse after graduation and began working at GE where I met my husband and we married in l962...I was just a baby! We have two children...a girl and a boy who are both married and we are the proud grandparents of Ryan 7 and Alison 4. We lived in Kingston, N.Y. where we raised our children until we relocated to Florida when my husband was transferred in 1991. We were very lucky and our children moved with us and live nearby. While in Kingston, I decided to go to college. I went to SUNY New Paltz for my BA and then to SUNY Albany for my masters in social work. I have been working in social work for the past 20 years and now own a consulting firm and run my own business. I guess I am far from retirement because I am in the process of opening a woman's fitness center and spa. I am planning on opening next month. Very exciting, but scary too. I think of the "Happy Days" in Fulton with much love and happiness. Look forward to hearing from any classmates.

After my freshman year at FHS I went to Emma Willard School in Troy, New York then went on to Endicott Jr. College (now a four yr school)& majored in Radio & Television. I had a radio program called "A Date With Susie" at WOSC & had lots of fun with that during my six week internships & summers. After graduation I wrote promotion for Channel 9 in Syracuse until I was married. I have a daughter, Laura, who is the Green Building Coordinator for residential & commercial properties for the City & County of San Francisco. My son, Winston, lives in Clifton Park with his wife and six month old Carson & works for Enterprise. I sold real estate for approx. twenty-three years and just let my license expire in May, but have been keeping too busy with volunteer work the last several years. I'm on the Trip Committee for the Everson Museum in Syracuse which I have really enjoyed. As volunteers, we plan and run day trips, long distance USA trips, & international trips as a benefit of museum membership. I was co-chair of our five day trip to NYC last December & I'm co-chair of a day trip to the Adirondacks in September when we'll visit the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake & see the International Water Color Show at Old Forge. We try to run a trip every month so it's a time consuming committee but made lots simpler with computers & faxes so I'm able to carry on even while I'm in Naples, Florida where I've been spending winters the last 15 years. The last three years I've been Co-President of the Syracuse Garden Club. As members of The Garden Club of America we work to improve & protect the quality of the environment through education, conservation and civic improvement which has been very educational for me.

Not wanting to use up John's retirement fund  (cost of mailings), I have come aboard. John also had me commit to this writing at the 45th. reunion. With prior commitments on the chosen dates of the reunion, I ended up party raiding. Was able to reacquaint with a few of the classmates. Sorry to have missed others.

From 1960-62 attended business school in Syracuse, where I met my wife, Lorraine Thompson. I had told her I wanted a football team for a family. She wasn't real enthusiastic about the idea, so I told her we would include a few cheerleaders. She didn't want to believe me. We married late 62. Have five children...4 boys and a girl. At this time my wife realized I wasn't kidding and she said enough is enough. So the oldest, a pipe fitter, now has two children.  #2 is a machinist with three children. #3 a chemist with one child, #4 my daughter works as a clerk for the county, and has a daughter, #5 a physical therapist with one child and one on the way. All are in the area, and with all the varied interests we take time to share a little of ourselves with each other. With the boys at a young age hockey became an interest, so carting them around, and I coached and was an administrator for 20 years within the organization during their growing years. Yes my daughter wanted to play but maintained the status of family cheerleader with mom and pop, as planned. I worked at Nestle's for 33 years, retiring in 1997 as a Shift Superintendent. Early retirement has been great, bought a camp in Fair Haven which I have completely renovated and spend much of our summer time there. Spent four years as an elected town councilor (mistake), finished out the term to find a different past time. I enjoy being with my family; do a little traveling, fishing, golf, walking, reading, and the computer. If you aren't asleep already you will be soon, so I will kiss off for now. Really enjoyed raiding the 45th. reunion. Wish I had been there for it all and looking forward for the next time when we will all meet again.

After high school, and college at SUNY Geneseo, I married, had 3 children (now grown), divorced, re-married, had twins (now 16, boy and girl), and moved to Florida in 1998 after 34 years of teaching history.  I also coached golf and basketball, among other sports.  My wife, Suzanne, is a teacher, and I work one or two days a week on the golf course, and play golf when not working.  We've been enjoying Florida living for ten years now (2008) and seldom get back to upstate NY.  I appreciate hearing from you and hope to hear from others with time to write.

I graduated from Marywood College in Scranton, PA in 1964 and first taught in Solvay, NY. My husband was with the government and we transferred to Middlesex, NJ and then on to Woodbridge, VA and finally to Fremont, CA in 1978 where I currently live. I have taught mainly Junior High and then 5th grade.  I retired from the Fremont Schools in 2005. I now chair Tech Trek, a program  through the American Association of University Women, whereby seventh grade girls receive scholarships to attend a  math/science camp at Stanford or Mills College each summer. I have been blessed with three children, now grown, who all live nearby as well as 4 wonderful grandchildren. I was divorced in 1990 and now spend most of my time with my finance, Charlie. We have traveled quite a bit, but both enjoy spending time with our children and grandchildren. He is an avid fisherman and hunter so I get to go to our place in Northern CA quite often or New Mexico each year where he hunts and I tour. I have  thought of so many of you over the years and am happy to be in touch once more.  I'd love to hear from you.

I have one daughter, Tammy, and two grandchildren, both boys.  Tammy lives in Jacksonville, FL.  After working ten years at Marine Midland Bank (now HSBC), I married Jerry Ware and went to work at Fulton Savings Bank.  I retired in 1997 after 25 years.  Jerry and I built a new home in 1989 and still live here, outside of Fulton.  We purchased a camp in Osceola, NY (up north of Redfield) and go there on weekends.  I visit with Tammy weekends on the phone but see her once a year.  I'm really enjoying life!  Our friends keep us busy, too.  Jerry retired in 2003 from HSBC.  I guess life is simple now; wouldn't have it any other way.

I spent 1967-1968 in the Republic of South Viet Nam. In 1970 I was transferred to Corpus Christi Texas where I taught air navigation to prospective pilots and navigators. I got out of the Navy in 1972 and married my current wife in 1973.  We have two children, Gregg and Cindy, and two grand children.  I went to work for NCR in customer service in 1972.  In 1974 I was hired by Crucible Steel as a Systems Analyst/Designer.  In 1991 I was put in charge of the Metallurgical Lab, Claims and Investigations.  I retired in 2003 and moved to Ocala, Florida after my wife (Bette - 1963 Syracuse Valley graduate) retired from Syracuse University. We spend summers in Cape Vincent on the St. Lawrence (we have a mobile home).  I enjoy golfing winter and summer, fishing and boating at Cape Vincent.  I read a lot of military history between doctor appointments.  I would enjoy hearing from you as none seem to be strangers even after all these years.

After high school I went to S.U.N.Y Morrisville majoring in Agriculture.  After college I went to work with G.L.F. Co-operative and later Agway.  I married Nancy Sitts (Class of '61) September 1, 1963.  Left Agway and spent the next 38 1/2 years at the Nestle Company (Fulton) doing machine maintenance for most of those years.  After Nestle I left Fulton and worked at New York Chocolate and Confections for 23 months.

While working at Nestle I operated a small farm raising dairy replacements and some beef animals.  In 1986 I sold the animals and continued farming by working the land.

Nan and I had one daughter, Krista.  Krista married Brian Kramak and we have four grandchildren: Erin, Jillian, Benjamin and Timothy.

I retired October, 2006.

I went to work in the sales office of Sealright after graduation for 3 years.  Got married in1963 to Ev and moved to Utica so he could finish at Mohawk Valley Community College.  Moved back to Fulton, then to Mexico Pt. where we have lived for the past 45 years.  I worked for the Mexico School System for 27 years and retired in 2004.  I also worked 3 years at Oswego Co. DDS, so I was lucky I had 30 years with the NYS retirement system. Ev and I have 4 kids: My oldest child Kelly is married, a homemaker, and has 2 children.  Her oldest child, Jessica, is also married and has 2 children of her own - so I am a great grandmother.  And I love it.  Christine is a paralegal and works for Onondaga Co.  She's single but lives with her boyfriend, Joe, an electrician for Magna. Michael put in 6 years in the Navy Pacific Fleet and served in the Persian Gulf War 1 1/2 years.  He's traveled the world 5 times and was on 6 continents (which he loved and learned so much).  He is now a power lineman and crew chief...single, but has a great girlfriend, our local school nurse.  He also hunts big game.  Betsy, our youngest, is married with 2 kids and lives in town.  So I get to spend a lot of time with Margon and Nic.  She is a supervisor for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of CNY and graduated from Oswego State in 1997.  She's also a great photographer.  Ev has just closed the doors to his business, Enviro Clean of CNY after 30 years+.

We did a lot of bowling but I had to give it up after 4 knee surgeries.  We had a camp at Grampus Pond in the Adirondaks for 25 years while the kids were growing up.  Traveled to Florida every winter to see Ev's parents and to Mississippi to visit my brother, Bob (class of '64).  He still lives in Gulfport.

I was a Girl Scout leader (Junior troop) for 8 years, and sang in the Methodist Church choir for many years.  I was a charter member of the Mexico Band Boosters and also a member of Friends of Casey's Cottage here at the Point.  We rent boat docks to fishermen from all over the East coast.  I love it but here we are blessed with abundant wild life (except when the deer eat my shrubs).  Ev is an avid hunter, so we eat a lot of moose, elk, deer and salmon in season.  I think that's what keeps us so healthy.

Thank you for the web site.  It's so great to re-live the best times of our lives and to see how we turned out.

Just want you to know I will be coming to the 50th. Printed the reservation documents which will follow via snail mail.  Finally got to your web site the other day with some guidance from Bill Bodwitch and enjoyed seeing everybody within their profiles.  After college I taught for 33 yrs, Amer. Hist. Govt. Econ. I have two children within my first marriage; Eric (43) is an investigator with the Ontario County Sheriffs office, Canandaigua, NY.  Marnie (41) is a teacher at a private school in Carpinteria, CA, near Santa Barbara.  Eric has one child, Adin (7), and Marnie, two children, Keller (12) and Eli (10).  My wife, Terry, has a daughter (31) living in Chappaqua, NY.

Having retired from 45 years in education as a high school English teacher (yes... another "Ms O'Connor") and administrator, I am enjoying days by the water on the Salmon River Bay near Port Ontario and renovating my new Oswego retirement place.  Winters I'm spending in Sarasota, FL and have enjoyed seeing many of our classmates there.  My greatest joy is spending time with my grandchildren Sophia (6), Eleanor (4) and Vivian (3 m) who live on Cape Cod with my daughter Erin & Dave Ralston (both work for the Woods Hole Institute). My 2nd daughter Claire lives in Kinsale, Ireland with partner Jeff, their daughter Charlotte (10 m) and Jeff's two sons Kai (7) & Jamie (6).  Claire works as a certified instructor for the Irish Guide Dogs Assoc. in Cork. My youngest daughter Emily lives in Portland OR and has just completed her first year successfully as a special ed teacher of K-5 children.  All great places to visit now that I have time.

Following graduation from FHS, I graduated from LeMoyne College and began teaching in Glens Falls,NY sharing a house with our classmate, Kathy Sczupak for three years.  I guess I got the travel bug and went to St. Croix to teach, then to Denver to grad school,  married (Tom), taught there for two years then went to Managua, Nicaragua for 2 years where Tom had a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship at the University and I worked with a group of doctors in rural clinics. We had our first daughter then traveled via the back roads of Central America (amazing) and the south to settle on a small farm east of the Blue Ridge Mts. near Charlottesville, VA.  We tried homesteading while I taught in Charlottesville and we had two more daughters.  Our marriage ended in 1978 and I settled back in Fulton teaching English in G. Ray Bodley HS for ten years while my family matured & I went to graduate school.  I took a year off to get a Masters in Educational Administration at Harvard and an CAS fro SUNY Oswego.  My career in administration began back in Glens Falls as a Superintendent (and only administrator) of a small, elementary school district in Glens Falls.  From there I went to Westmoreland CSD (10 yrs.), Rondout Valley CSD (6 yrs.) and Washingtonville  (3 yrs.) as a superintendent .  During those early years my children graduated from HS and went on to various colleges &graduate schools and I worked on a doctorate from Teachers College at Columbia U. in NYC.
Busy but satisfying days and years.

Intertwined with all of that were trips to China, Russia, Germany and other places in Europe, Mexico, and many states.  I continue to love traveling and will spend a month in Ireland and time in Spain later in September.  Lots of years since we graduated.  Good times, mostly.  I grew up in Scriba in the Oswego school district where I attended the Campus school until we moved to Volney and I started high school in FHS with all of you.  Looking forward to seeing many of you at the 50th Reunion on July 16 & 17.
